Pain

When you wake it is there,
Fire burning through the muscles,
Tearing up the flesh and breaking
The barriers of what you’ve felt
Before. Nothing dulls the burn,
Nothing douses the flames,
And it hurts so much.
It hurts again and again,
Until at last you are claimed
By the oblivion of sleep.
