Trapped

It’s like there’s a glass
Roof, walls and floor.
Every time I bash on it
It becomes a barrier, never
Broken but always there.
I can see you climbing,
Leaping into a whole world
That’s far above mine.
But I’m stuck.
Poor breeds poor,
Ordinary is hereditary.
Sadness is born at the same
Time as we are born.

This is supposedly a meritocracy
But no matter how hard I work
I don’t move.
Am I trapped?
